Transocean Marianos,

Was Tharos at Piper Alpha, and drilled the initial well at Macondo.

Dodged a couple of bullets in it's life.........

Tharos never 'dodged any bullets' as it's integrity or safety was never at risk during the Piper A tragedy. It's performance was surely amiss but I don't see where you are coming from. As for Macondo TM never missed the Hurricane 'bullet' which damaged it badly.....I guess was a 'blessing in disguise'.

trawldoor it dodged the bullets, as it wasn't involved in the 'bad stuff'- it's a turn of phrase. Iminterested in why the ' watch this space' though....

The Piper thing is irrelevent as it no more 'dodged bullets' ( I was aware it's a turn of phrase) than any more of the support vessels (except the Silver Pit, The Sandhaven and their respective crews). As for Macondo, well maybe, but then again since it's systems and possibly the actions of those onboard would have differed who knows? It does assume the premise that the Macondo blowout would have happened regardless of the unit drilling the well. This was unlikely to be the case. The 'watch this space' is referring to an incident (ongoing) with this Unit down in Ghana just now. During anchor operations the integrity of one of the pontoons was compromised leading to stability issues. Non essential crew were evacuated but the situation was stable last I heard. The breach has been attributed to 'cracks' , 'weld breaks' and / or 'anchor puncture' in the various 'oil trade rags'.....An up to date status is available on Transoceans Website

She started taking in water 3 days ago & they had to evacuate 100 crew. She is being towed to shallow waters where she will be surveyed for damage. No further news of what damage etc.
