U S S Mercury

Laid down as the C-2 cargo ship SS Lightning and operated briefly by Moore-McCormack as SS Mormactern, this ship was commandeered by the Navy in 1941 and became a Stores Ship. As such, she had quite an eventful history, including surviving a hit by an aerial torpedo. See below:
