Not the Flex 3. This one appears to have been lengthened. N. Installer was lengthened in Norway around early 90. Flex 3 lengthened in Southbank, Tees 1992. After being lengthened she had 2 cable tanks for telecom cable plus a spare tank behind the accommodation and one below decks. Flex 3 layed part of TAT 11 around UK and France, some work around Trinidad before going out to Australia to load for work in the far east. She never came back to Europe after that. I was with her two years (96 to 98) and a couple of time after with CWM. The cables on the deck are not telecom as they are stowed in tanks as you know.
I seem to recal the N Installer being that colour in 90 but if it is the installer all the top cable deck has been removed and the tanks also. She would have spent the early 90s out the north pacific, NPC installation, and far east after that. I knocked CWM back when they were going to send me there in mid 90. If I was to stick my neck out I would say Northern Installer late 90's with the top deck and tanks removed.
George thanks for that Info, I joined N,Installer 18/11/91.in Yokohama,after the N,Pacific job.I was part of the Rigging crew from NOS.Middlesbrough. Layed cable,Phillipines-Brunei-Singapore.Flew home8/1/92. Rejoined her25/2/92.Calais,then to Cassablanca.Cable lay to Maderia,then to Setubal,Port., I left her 7/5/92.So all the alterations must have happend after that. I dont reconise her as N,Installer with no top deck,tanks and carousel,but its possible. Thanks again George. Peter.
Not sure if the photo is the Northern Installer, but the Northern Installer became the Midnight Wrangler then Texas Horizon still working in the Gulf of Mexico (maybe under a different name now). I worked on her as the Midnight Wrangler before Torch Offshore went bankrupt and also when she was the Texas Horizon working out of Mexico.
Global Marine Systems purchased the Northern Installer around 1999 and converted her again to lay and repair telephone cables. She was renamed Wave Alert and was based in Recife, Brazil for a while. Around 2004 she was sold to Torch. The last time I see her she was the Midnight Wrangler and was in a repair yard at Port Fouchon.
