Unknown wreck

Came aground about 100 metres from the house I grew up at the Northumbrian fishing village of Craster possibly between the two World wars

Nice posting Neville and hopefully some of the Members will be able to identify some more of this, given the date and the area. I hope so, as it would be good to have more on this one.

Nev,
a suggestion from 1928 is :
Norwegian owned " Haarfagre", built 1909 as " Stadion ", 519 g.t.

She went aground on 11/12/1928, half a mile South of Craster, Northumberland when on a voyage from Skien to Middlesbrough with cargo of pitprops. Believe she was abandoned in situ.

Looks about the right size and age don't you think ..?

Regards,
Rick

I saw the remains of this vessel every day I lived in the village. My notes were lost and could I hell think of its name. Its years since Ive been back their and lost touch with alot of people but that definetely rings a bell.

Nev, could be the one then .

My reference shows she was "condemned in 1929" which does not mean much , but there is no inference that she was salvaged or broken up.

Can't imagine that there was much left of her when you saw her ?

I'll see if I can dig up any more.

Regards,
Rick

The angle the photo is taken from does not show a natural breakwater. Its to the right of the picture called muckle car. It accesible at low water by walking across sand and rocks. We used to place Lobster Pots their when we were bairns.Even when I was last their about 6 years ago all that remained was the ships boiler which was visible from half tide.Could look out of our bedroom window and see the wreck when I lived there. Left at 15 years old but always held it dearly in my heart.

Nev,
sad to say the only bit of Northumberland I have seen is the A1 on route to Leith !

Time to pay that County another visit but as a tourist next time....
