The last operational Victory cargo ship: built 1945, laid up 1980, scrapped 1982. The Towle was in continuous operation for three and a half decades, from the Arctic to the Antarctic, and from Peru to the Persian Gulf. The taxpayers really got their money's worth, especially considering that she was built in only 3 1/2 months.
