I remember making a Revell kit of her about 55 years ago - I built myself quite a navy

I have a US navy hat issued to the crew of this ship who were on board when Reagan met Gorbachov in Iceland I think . It has both the U S and Russian flags the ship and says glasnost.

Saw her docking at the East River piers in 1956, guess the Americans have had their moneys worth, nearly 60 years isn't bad.

USS Forrestal was commissioned in 1955 and decommissioned and struck from the Naval registry in 1993 which gave her 38 years service, since 1993 she has been used for spares, was also going to be used as a museum and an artificial reef, now she has gone to scrap.

The US carriers are the best. US ships also survive from accidents as below. USS Forrestal is testimony to the US engineers who built her - other navies would not have been able to repair their ships after a major incident.
