The Carmet tug Vanguard (ex - Rathgarth) was built 1965 and was 306 gr tons. Seen outward bound at Hook of Holland she in 1993 she was regularly employed around the UK on coastal towage duties.

6-cyl. 4 S.C.S.A. (15" x 18") KSSDM-6 by Mirrlees National Ltd., Stockport, single reduction reverse geared to a single fixed pitch propeller operating within a Kort steerable nozzle. 1,300 bhp. 22 tons bollard pull. 11 kts.
9.10.1963: Keel laid as RATHGARTH by Richards (Shipbuilders) Ltd., Lowestoft (Yard No. 478) for R. & J. H. Rea Ltd., London.
22.10.1964: Launched.
6.1.1965: Completed. Registered at Milford.
16.7.1970: Owner restyled as Cory Ship Towage Ltd.
1977: Renamed CAMPAIGNER and re-registered at Glasgow.
1.11.1985: Owner restyled as Cory Towage Ltd.
1988: Transferred to Limerick, Irish registry, (O.N. 402474) and renamed KENRY.
3.1991: Sold to S. Evans, Garston, for demolition and resold to Mr. Metcalf, (Carmet Tug Co. Ltd., managers), Eastham, and renamed VANGUARD. Registered at Liverpool (O. N. 305287).
1991: Sold to Carmet Tug Co. Ltd., Bromborough.
7.9.2004: Whilst engaged on military work (BAE/MOD) stranded at 54.34N., 05.57W, on the Isle of Rona, Hebrides. Holed and flooded. Later patched, pumped and refloated, then laid up for sale as is at Kyleakin.
2010: Towed to Hull and laid up pending a decision on future.
30.6.2010: Towed across the Humber to New Holland Shipyard Ltd, for demolition.

One of her sisters is still in service in Greece now called PANORMITIS ex REAGARTH 50 Years on since she was based at Milford Haven.

It is believed that the third sister RAMSGARTH was still in existence under the Sao Tome & Principe flag in 2014.
