Slava Class also known as Project 1164 (Atlant), the design was approved 1974 and Varyag is the third of the class, launched as the Chervonaya Ukraina, and completed 25th Dec 1989. With the split in the Black Sea Fleet with Ukraine came she was renamed Varyag.
(Interestingly Varyag was the name of the uncompleted Kuznetsov class Pr1143.6)
2 power trains of 2 x 22,500Hp and 1 x 10,000HP M-9 Gas turbines, 2 shafts.
The prominent radar aft atop the hangar is the fire control Top Dome for the SAN-6 (Fort) AA system (S-300F missiles) which fly at around mach 6.0
543 is the Udaloy I, Destroyer, Pr1155, Marshall Shaposhnikov, completed Dec 1985 in Kaliningrad.

Dear Paul

Great to see you have up to date info, I will post some photos taken by a friend who was XO on HMNZS Endeavour, the vessels only have pennant numbers, hopefully you will no what they are.
