Gallery 117, Bermuda. Just in time.... the show opens in FOUR hours. The frame is hanging in the gallery. I should be in time to slip the painting into the frame... 'WET PAINT!' 20 paintings. 10 months work.

Wonderful aircraft, aptly named SUPER VC10.
Did a few trips to Nairobi with BOAC and East African Airways in the 1960-70s.
Long distance air travel does not have the same appeal now.
Always landed at Entebbe for an early morning Full English breakfast

Flew them from London to Mauritius 1969-1974, as you say a lot different experience to flying these days. Cant say it was all that dearer I was enjoying BA staff travel at the time.

Lovely painting as always. And for me the VC10 is the most elegant airliner of all time. Never flew in one, the 747's had taken over by the time I made my first long-haul flights, but sometimes used to see them flying over, high up on those seemingly endless blue sky summer days of the school holidays of my childhood. Binoculars were always at the ready!

Thanks for this great painting Stephen. Brings back memories of days when flying was still a pleasure not an ordeal. Enjoyed several flights to and from Libya in the 1960's and 70's by VC10 including my one and only ever trip in 1st Class. Free G&T's and such polite and friendly stewardesses! Derek

Great series of paintings Stephen, the VC10 is amazing, almost 3D. When we were tied up at St Georges you always knew when a VC10 was taking off by the roar of it's mighty engines, sadly I never flew in one, they were still using 707's when I flew out there.
Hope the exhibition is a great success!

I never went on VC10 either. 707s were the normal Bermuda Heathrow run. 747s were great bit now the 777s are used in the Bda run. Fine aircraft

One fellow in the gallery told me he was one of the maintenance gang on the VC10's in the 60s in Bermuda.

The BOAC - CUNARD livery was finished about 1966.
