VEGA 1919 Aux Schooner

VEGA 1919 Aux Schooner

This vessel was a regular visitor to Colombo during the 1950s when I took this photograph, I did post a smaller version on the Brocklebank forum in the photos section and a lot of information was supplied. Brief details she was built in 1919 and in 1950 she was registered under the Danish flag with

Anchor ball still raised, slack mooring lines (If those at the bollard belong to her? There's a thin rope from her forecastle heading towards the bollard), there seems to be a gap between the ship and the wharf; one anchor is dipping, something is going on at her after end, gaff and boom on foremast hung over starboard bulwarks, undefinable floating object on her starboards side, no one to be seen onboard: I got this feeling there's a story somewhere here,- but then again maybe not? Maybe I just start with that ball and forcedly go on? Regards, Stein.

Yes - all duly noted, but there are dockers near the stern and I can assure you she used to appear in Colombo quite some time after I took this picture. There are later pictures of her on the Brocklebank forum in the photo thread. I suggest you take a look. Regards, Roger

Shipowner A. E. Sørensen from Svendborg was a rather big coasterowner. He started with sailwessel around 1930. And up in the 70ths he still own 2 motorschooners, running in lokal traffic on Greenland. The ships where M/S Forsøget and M/S Taletta.
He´s ship mostly sailed on Greenland for Royal Greenland and on the Falkland Islands for the Brittish Goverment.
I have a schoolmaid who´s father where captain on M/S Britannia. An A.E.S. ship there where running at the Falklands.
His biggest ship where the Nanok S. a 3000 tonner.
The company went bankrupt some years ago.
Best regards Torben.
