One of the six “Mail Boats” built for UFCo. Two similar delivered to “Columbia Line” as near I can tell.
3/1942 - 6/1946 U.S.S. MERAK AF-21
1946 VERAGUA resumed service as passenger ship for UFC.
1953 Cut back to freighter at Newport News SB & DD Co.
1959 Transferred and renamed SINALOA, Elder & Fyffes
Broken up at Ghent 3/1965

Excellent Image Rory,my father began his life in the Merchant Navy with Elders & Fyffes, Bayano in 1934 and Cavina early 1935 sailing out of Avonmouth for the West Indies, USA etc.It must have seemed another world at age 14, their vessels sure did look the part from the outside I wonder.
