Her first two owners - Baltisch-Amerikanische Petroleum-Import and Panama Transport - were both subsidiaries of Standard Oil of New Jersey/ESSO https://www.crwflags.com/FOTW/FLAGS/de~dapg.html . Panama Transport ships also had German crews... This I feel would have had something to do with her being transfered and re-flagged in 1940 to another Standard Oil subsidiary.
