I seen the Vital Spark passing off Greenock as she came to visit the QM 2.
Last time I seen her she was tied up alongside at
Inveraray. Good that she is now sea worthy.
Hope she had safe journey back to her home port.
She is still registered in Glasgow.
There was a chap by the name of Campbell owned her late 1960s,messed around trying to salvage coal in the Sound of Mull, Hugh Carmichael from Craignure bought her from him, and ran her a few years along with his other puffer the Marsa which I skippered for a number of years, she was scrapped in Irvine a few years back, and its nice to see the Eldessa as she was called then still plodding on..
She was, until 2006, Eilean Eisdeal, before being re-registered as Vital Spark. Originally VIC72, she is reported as having been the last working puffer on the west coast, where she was operated by the Easdale Shipping Company. From 2001 to around 2005 she was on show, as Eilean Eisdeal, at Inveraray.
