Vulcain

Vulcain

Even if no name is visible, this old postcard shows the launching of ÉDOUARD SHAKI at Dunkirk 12.08.12.
Built for Soc. les Affreteurs Réunis, Manager: J. Stern (you can discern AR of the funnel marking) the cargo was sold to Les Cargos Algériens and renamed TLEMCEN in 1928. Seized by Italy she was renamed PARTINICO (or PARTINICIO?). Bombed and sunk at Catania 11.05.43 the wreck was later raised and scrapped.

Sorry, I was wrong, another close scrutiny of the picture shows the ship is flying a flag at the foremast, on which the letters VULC appear, so it's the VULCAIN of the same company, and the date is 25.09.11.
Like her sister ÉDOUARD SHAKI the VULCAIN was later sold to Les Cargos Algériens. VULCAIN was seized by the British at Milford Haven in 1940. She was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U 38 in the Northern Atlantic 23.05.41 on a voyage to Freetown with coal.
