Waimate

Waimate

Waimate was launched from Blumer's Yard at Sunderland in the summer of 1874 for the New Zealand Shipping Company. She made 22 voyages to the colony before the Russians purchased her in 1896. She did not last long under Russian flag, for in 1899 she sailed from Newcastle, N.S.W., with the usual coal

She left London on October 24th 1880, cleared the Channel six days later, passed the Snares 66 days from the Eddystone and arrived at Lyttelton on January 6th 1881 after a passage of 74 days.
