How the heck do you know that from the scant background in the photo?? You must be brilliant if you are right.

Hi Stuart,
Peshawur was a ship I remember from pre WW2.
I think winter of 1938..I was in the sailing barge Celtic and
during thick fog we were 'creeping' up Gallions Reach and we
bumped into Peshawur at anchor awaiting to enter the Royals..
We made it safely the next mile to 'starvation buoys' off North
Woolwich..I think my Skipper wanted to go home for the weekend..
Regards
Stan

Stuart, I agree. I can only presume Malcolm recognises the shape of the hill behind the bows and is that a small island in the Channel astern? He knows that area like the back of his hand of course. Great spot though.

thanks to all for your interest - the island astern is DENNY ISLAND - the two pennants (which were blue and yellow) also give away the location as Avonmouth - the photograph, along with many other similar pre-war shots, was taken from the South Pier by an unknown photographer who was clearly dedicated and professional, and best of all, whose work was well distributed and subsequently published in many books

best regards to all. Malcolm Cranfield

Thanks for that information Malcolm, you are brilliant, and thanks to that unknown/un-named photographer.
