Last conventional cargo ship delivered to R. S. Dalgleish, the "Warkworth" leaving Smith's Dock, North Sheilds, after dry-docking in 1965.

she used to trade to HULL a loaded with grain form the great lakes she won the silver stick for been the first ship up the great lakes getting through the ice she won two or three times what anice looking ship

looks like she has just came out of No 5 drydockat smiths on the tyne she was a regular there worst job was getting her jumbo ready for test no wire stays they where solid steel links about ten foot long and had to joined together for hanging from under crosstrees haevy work. cheers tom.

hi sam yes i enjoyed going to work at smiths we where just one big happy family it was a sad day when we all got transferred to wallsend drydocks they didnt want us and we didnt want to be thier,smiths was a great yard and at one time the ships would lay of the tyne just waiting to get a berth all top class shipping companys sadly it all came to an end great ships great times. :wink:

Hi tom same at BRIGHAM AND COWANat Hull one big happy family and great to go to work for the laugh and the tricks you got up to we did have the warkworth in dry dock two or three times in Hull ice damage to the prop sam

She was also a regular runner to Churchill in Hudson Bay

One of my great disappointments.
On the Oakworth I had to put up with Palm Beach, Corpus Christi, Lisbon, Bordeaux and Brazil instead of Churchill.[=P]

Did 2 runs on her to Port Churchill,last trip left late and ended up having to release the anchor cables,anchors had run out after heavy seas.
