wheelhouses

anyone need a shed for their garden? Wheelhouses lying at Inverness scrappies in 1994 following decommissioning. Middle one is the Procyons, INS.7

They are steel painted to look like wood. Its called graining and it started when the first of the steel wheelhouses came into use as the owners/skippers preferred the look of the old wood wheelhouses but needed the strength of the steel.

I'd certainly agree with the skippers on that, Davie :)
I am familiar with graining, just never seen it done on boats, usually houses and furniture...
Especially whoever did the one closest in the picture did an awesome job. I looked and looked....

Graining the wheelhouse's, is very much a talented art form, I remember seeing the wheelhouse on Dads boat being undercoated, then later, the painters would start graining, its brilliant to see a wheelhouse being transormed into the grain look finish.
