Wolfgang Petersen's POSEIDON

Wolfgang Petersen's POSEIDON

She looks similar to acertain super liner launched from St Nazaire recently.

Be interesting to watch that film as the "original" Poseidon was on her way for breaking when the accident happened. This ship looks too new. Wonder how they'll get round that?

I have since seen the film and she looks very similar to QM2.
Poseidon is a very beamy ship. It would take a lot to roll her... like a 150foot rogue wave perhaps.

Coastie, did you get to see Poseidon and if so what did you think?

Pathetic film! I can't watch these things, I pick too many holes in them! Like Speed 2 when he turns the bow thruster by hand and goes running around ballast tanks!

Moaf what did you think of the capsze itself? I thought it was more real than the original film.
There were things in that film I would have scripted differently .
Too many explosions for a start. The capsize and the galley are okay but I would have had that AC unit fall out the dome and the engunes at the stern fall away instaed. The Ballast tanks, how would you flood them from inside?

From the start it goes wrong! The Captain turns beam on to a rogue wave, which is believable after some of the old men I've sailed with!! (only joking!) As for the capsize, well having never done it myself, I can't be totally sure but I don't think it would quite be like that!

I'm a big fan of both movies (ignoring the big plot holes!). The capsize itself looked very convincing but would a capsized ship roll back up as she's sinking, or was that just for the movie? The Poseidon (version 2) was based on the QM2, but certain features were 'enhanced' ie the prow, the two deck high suites and the stern tiers. The Dining room liked like a copy out of the Freedom of the Seas. I think everyone will agree that the Queen Mary made for a classier Poseidon.

Yes, a capsizing ship should roll back upright as she's sinking due to the bottom machinery weight in the ship. In Poseidons case though, she didnt have any engines down in the bottom, as they crashed thru the atrium!
