Nina Bowater

The Nina Bowater was my first trip. We sailed from Ellesmere Port on the 23rd Dec 1963 bound for Cornerbrook, Newfoundland. It was the roughest voyage ever, however we made it and I stayed for anorther 5 months before being transferred to the Scottish Ptarmigan, and that's another story.
Tony Ravenill, then 5th. Engineer

I sailed on Nina Bowater 1974/75 as Second Engineer. Lovely ship and a beautiful Swiss Sulzer down below. We spent the entire winter season running out of Cornerbrook to the East Coast United States as far down as Miami with one trip to New Orleans. I will always remember following the Canadian ice breakers into Cornerbrook.
Recently I was in Halifax Nova Scotia and I saw that the ice breaker John A MacDonald was still going strong.
Happy days and 100% British crew.

Guys,
I sailed on the Nicolas Bowater, I was 5th and 4th Engineer, it was a Great Company. There is a Bowater website put together by the son of a guy I sailed with on the Nicolas. Ian Howartson has done a great job and is looking to post all names of past crew members of all the ship in the fleet. The site is bowatersteamshipcompany.no-ip.com
Have a look
