Hello, my father was Frank Cross a long time servant of Watts Watts. He was chief engineer on the SS Dartford when he was dicharged on 19 December 1939. He was sent to London and signed on with the SS Izgled on 21 December 1939 and sailed to Antwerp where he was discharged on 12 January 1940. Thereafter his discharge book is blank until it shows him signing on with the SS Twickenham on 30 October 1940. Written in pencil is a note to say the blank will be filled in at a later date.

I have a complete record of his service at sea from 24 January 1920 to 5 August 1941 when he was brought ashore to be the assistant superintendent engineer at Newcastle, except for the 'blank'

I would very much appreciate it if anyone could fill in the blank and also give me any information about the Izgled.

Thanks in advance.

Peter Cross.

Thank you Mr Frost for this helpful information. I doubt very much that my Father was on the Elmcrest went she was sunk. However he said very little about the war.

My Mother met him when the Dartford docked in Cardiff and had to go virtually straight back to Sunderland - I remember vividly that she had hysterics on the train! I was 5. I never saw her cry again despite all the losses including that of her Father a month later.

Thanks again.

Peter Cross.
