Lamport & Holt Line ships laid up in the River Blackwater
I would be very interested to learn of any information such as ships names, dates, photos or anecdote about any Lamport & Holt Line and Booth Line ships that were laid up in the River Blackwater in Essex.
I believe the Basil and Bede were there in the early 1960s and the Balfe, Bernini, Boswell, Bronte and Linnell were there earlier in the 1930s. The large Lamport & Holt passenger liner Voltaire was laid up there from 1929 until 1932 when converted for cruising, but it is unclear if the Vandyck was also there or at Southampton throughout that period.
Theer are some pictures of this and some further information on
http://www.merseamuseum.org.uk/mmshipping.php but further information eg of ships, dates, photos or recollections eg of how time was spent while the ships were laid up would be appreciated and acknowledged before memories of this are lost.
