Glen Line's M.V. GLENGARRY built in 1940 by Burmeister & Wain of Copenhagen.

Kriegsmarine Glen
The Glengarry was being fitted out by Burmeister & Wain at Cobenhagen in 1940 when the Germans invaded Denmark. She was commissioned into the Kriegsmarine and had various roles and names. 'Hansa' and 'Meersburg' were two of Glengarry,s Kriegsmarine names and one of her 'choice roles' was a 'comfort' ship for German troops on R&R from the Eastern Front. I believe that at the end of the war, the Admiralty were dragging their feet over her return to Holt's. As a consequence of which, Lawrence Holt, acting on the principle that posession is nine tenths of the law, took a crew and boarded her at Kiel daring the Admiralty to contest his actions-which they never did.

Thank you for welcoming me to the Ships Nostalgia. I have often looked at the site and should have joined earlier. I was on the Glengarry during Voyages 5, 6, 7 and 8 and the subsequent coasting trip.

Welcome aboard, Ian.
I'm afraid I've had to remove the link within your post because it leads to a commercial website.

Glengarry photos
Hi all.
I have written an article on the 1939-1971 Glengarry, but am really struggling to find good quality photos of her at any time in her career.
If there is anyone out there who might be able to help me, I should be very grateful.
All I would need would be an email with attachment of the photo, preferably in Hi resolution or 300dpi minimum. I would of course give full credit when published, or anything else according to the wishes of the owner of the photo.
Needless to say, any help would be very much appreciated - just send a 'PM', and I shall reply there, or to your personal email address if you would prefer.

Kind regards to all,

John Martin

I have just put a photo of Glengarry in the library, please feel free to use it. The source is not known but probably AIRPHOTO. Sailed in her 1956/57
