Hello forum,
I travelled from England to South America aboard the Arlanza in 1962. I was very young then, but have a vivid memory of the march played as the ship set sail from Tilbury on August 12 because it was my birthday. Where or how can I find what march used to be played on those occasions?
Thank you,
Elena

On the Amazon 1963 I recollect a medley of nautical tunes being played when departing with passengers. ‘Life on the ocean waves’ being one.

"Now is the hour when we must say goodby " was the sailing tune most heard in the 1950's

I was Asst. Purser on the Arlanza 1965 to 1969. Our sailing music was medley of sea related marches and shanties except on our final voyage to South
America before she was transferred to Shaw Savill. As most of our crew, passengers and those on the quay waved goodbye and wept, we played
"The Carnival is Over" by the Seekers. I still tear up when I hear that song.
