Etta James.

The great Etta James left us all today.
My own favourite: I'd rather be blind. (Rod Stewart did a reasonable cover of it back in the '70's).
Here's Etta.

Beth Hart is also pretty good.

Sad news indeed. Etta's style of singing is and always will be enjoyed by millions.

I'm 80 and I had no idea who she was until I looked her up on the Internet and played one of her songs, blues was never one of my favorites so that's why I didn't know her. They said she used drugs a lot. Sadly its her life to live or die,I have no time for performers that use drugs.

Alex, I tell it like it is, I said I didn't know of her, or her singing, I looked her up to see who she was, and then posted what they said about her. The blues was not my kind of music so perhaps that's why I know nothing about her.

I saw Chicken shack with Stan Webb, really good blues band.
RIP Etta James, great blues artist I think she played alot in Chicago, but I could be mistaken

all the best

Not being a life-long non-smoking teetotaller, I wouldn't like to judge others but I'm pretty certain the vast majority of the music and lyrics I love in many genres were produced under the influence of various 'heady' substances. Wagner and Elgar may be exceptions although I hae me doots about Wagner. Flying Valkyries, eh?
