In the early '50s I sailed on the 'Afon Gwili' which was owned by Mrs Coombs of Llanelli. She also owned the 'Afon Morlais'.
As far as I am aware, they were the only two ships that she owned.

Hall Brothers Steamship Company of Newcastle-on-Tyne

When I was on the m.v. Bretwalda in 1961/62, Hall Bros. SS Co. also owned one other tramp, m.v. Ambassador and a tanker m.v. Royal Crown. They did have one other ship in 1961, m.v. Royal Emblem but that was scrapped early in the year, before I sailed with them.

The company had a long history having started with sailing ships in the 1860s but went bust at the end of the 1970s.

The 'fleet' as it was when I sailed with them did not have a very good outcome. The Ambassador sank in the Atlantic a couple of years after I left her and the Bretwalda went on fire whilst in Greek ownership and had to be beached. Only the Royal Crown made to the end of a normal life and reached the scrapyard.

Oregon SS, two ships Lutetian and Lawrentian.

Sailed on the mv. Valldemosa with Harrisons of Clydebank in 1959. Rendevoused with the other tramp ship in the company 400 miles off the Flodida to take off her spares as she was on her way to be scrapped in Japan. Rust, cockroaches, and B.O.T. rations for the crew, if any of you can remember that injustice.

D.L. Street Ltd bought the Saxon Star from Blue Star, and renamed her Redbrook, in 1961. This was the only vessel they ever owned. They traded until 1965, when she was sold for further service on the Greek registry. A book by P.M.Heaton, The"Redbrook", a Deep Sea Tramp; tells the history.
