My understanding from someone who served on Chatham is that this would not be possible as part of the equipment was actually part of the hull structure and could not physically be removed.

The RAN have them in exactly the same place as Mersey has hers. The RAN guys I know thought the RAN picked up the idea from their old days as part of the RN.

Yes, I have a hull which is the right dimensions & looks for the Hoo vessels. Apparently all built by Yorkshire Drydock. So next step is to find out if they still exist, if not who has their archives.
