I sailed with Alan on British Venture 1973 and later worked alongside him on a North Sea oil rig (late 90s). He was living in Ellon near Aberdeen at the time.

We had British PO Mechanics in my latter years with BP (I left in 77). It seemed to work quite well, especially on the Commerce where the extra pair of hands was invaluable.
