I was an engineer apprentice, on SS Vermetus (Shell Tanker) not long into my 2nd trip in Feb 1069 heading from Venezuela to Boston with heating fuel when to hit a storm. We battened down everything....

Shell always supplied 2 pairs with a red shell on top pocket. White, of course.
Took me a while but washed last watch's pair on next shift - Cheese grated Sunlight. That way always had about 6 pairs...

I was an engineer apprentice with Shell. Began at Stow College in Sept 1966, then did 2 x 6 month trips in 1968. Started at Springburn in Sept 1969.
