Navtex is about the only thing I've heard the MF band on 512kHz. Here Taupo Marine radio listens on a few frequencies (http://maritimeradio.org/taupo-maritime-radio-zlm/
) but there's no CW any more - only a couple of US nostalgia stations are active occasionally. I guess most ships are listening on VHF Channel 16 but everyone has Satcom to 'phone home' and GMDSS for when the SHTF.
