Hi John: A belated response to say I remember Shetlander Eddie Hutchison well from when we were up for Masters in Aberdeen. Good to know he went on to have a fulfilling career both afloat and ashore.
I recall an incident in the ’50s when the Rippingham Grange
lay fairly close to our ship at the Gatun Lake anchorage while awaiting a scheduled transit of the Panama Canal. Traffic on VHF became lively when a seaman in the Houlders vessel apparently went bananas and dived overboard. He was eventually picked up after swimming around for a while.
