Hi Stilwaters.
I joined the Waipori in Wellington in 58 Tauranga for paper and deck cargo of timber for Sydney, then down to Kembla for steel, had to leave Kembla in a hurry as a gale was kicking up, went back to our berth in Sydney where owing to the weather the skipper decided to have boat drill, I suppose it was just as well, as we launched the boat one davit collapsed leaving the boat hanging from the other, and one of the seamen in the drink. The skipper then made us load the boat on the after hatch in a cradle, saying we can launch it with the derricks, you will remember how she would roll on wet grass so we refused to sail her.
We held her up for three days, then the shore mob brought the davit back, when they found out that we had refused to sail they said it was ready two days ago. The skipper said he would DR the lot of the deck crew, but when we showed the shipping master the pics we took he refused.
