We actually walked across the Baltic Sea to anther BP tanker to get some essential supplies (beer ). Did you become aware of this at all .The captain was Bell and the 2/E was Bob Hofton an ex lecky .
The worst part though was ,when we docked in Wallsend for the months dry dock ,I got transferred to the Gunner in Barry Island . I only lived 12 miles away in Shotton.
It was a good ship though.
Another good ship was the Patrol ,coasting late 1970.2/E Colin Tuck and a great 3/E whose name I can not recall at present Mike ? a cockney. We went ashore one night in Malmo and went across on the Ferry to Copenhagen (after disposing of some scrap metal) )without passports I think .And got the first Ferry back in the morning with just our return tickets left -no money .I remember seeing the famous statue in the harbour . Met a girl that night whose job was a translator (of pornography books ),what a girl . We actually did 2 trips in 5 days on this ship -Kings North power Station next door from I.O.G, I was actually ashore at the dentist and missed the ship and had to get the taxi to take me round to Kings North .Then I.O.G to Purfleet. Ashore 6 nights out of 7.
