SS Oriana (4) built 1906

Finding very little information on this ship. In 1918 she ran aground in Ireland along with HMS Mystic. Would anybody know the circumstances of this mishap with these two ships.

The 1906 Oriana was a Pacific SN Co liner. According to Duncan Haws "Merchant Fleets Vol 8" she stranded on Rathlin Island on 8.5.1918; the liners Aeneas and Manora as well as the escorting destroyers Martial and Nicator also went ashore. All were refloated within 2 weeks. No mention of Mystic.

Mystic was a destroyer, launched 20.6.1915 and sold for scrap in 1921.

There was also a destroyer Oriana launched 23.9.1916 and scrapped in 1921.

Thankyou for your reply. Due to sickness in the family I have not been on line. My grandfather was the salvage diver during that salvage operation and he has listed Mystic as one of the destroyers maybe he had it wrong.

Your grandad was correct I have an Abrahams photo showing SS ORIANA aground and HMS MYSTIC (G3A) aground alongside the liner. I will scan and post on the site later this week

Thank you Tim for confirming that it was HMS Mystic aground with SS Oriana. I just wish my granddad had left a more detail account of his salvage work but it stopped with his first dive. I believe that they were not allowed to keep a diary what a shame he could have told us so much more.
