Shaw Savill ships laid up in the River Blackwater

I would be pleased to receive any information eg ships and dates.

I know that the Athenic was laid up here on the River Blackwater off Mersea Island in Essex from local records and was here from 26 July to 21 August 1968 per Lloyds List . However I understand that the Corinthic (or Ceramic) was here with her but I cannot find records to confirm that. We often saw the Suevic and Doric here and the Gothic at least twice including after her use as the Royal Yacht in 1954.

I would like some help with this for further reseach for a local Museum archive. See http://www.merseamuseum.org.uk/mmshipping.php
which will be most gratefully received and acknowledged

You might consider moving this post to the General Forum as not to many people go straight to this specific company site.... Paul

I signed on the Athenic on 20th August 1968, for a coastal voyage to Newcastle dry docking then returned to London and payed off.
I am fairly certain that she was the only SS&A vessel in the Blackwater at the time, but wouldn't stake my MN pension on it!

Further to the above, I do remember that we travelled to Burnham on Crouch and were ferried to the Athenic. Looking at my 1968 diary I was not very impressed with the Radio room, and was pleased that I was only doing a coastal on her. The Captain's name was Richmond. She didn't last too much longer being scrapped in Taiwan in October 1969.
