I remember a painting of a ship hanging in the hall when I was a child. It was the ship my Grandfather sailed in. it disappeared many years ago, probably in one of my Mothers house upgrades (the BBC has a lot to answer for).
It was a coasting collier, similar to a Kelly's coal boat.

I believe he did a lot of coasting Whitehaven/Maryport to Ireland and usually worked for Fishers of Newry.

I would be grateful for any information about the ship, many thanks. E S.

I think this may be the Algama, 774 tons, ON 117741, built 1904 by Fullerton, Paisley, as Lycidas. Brief history: Name changed 1912 to Clydebank, 1913 to Algama, 1915 to Eastford, 1915 to Algama. Wrecked 28 December 1923 at Les Baleines but refloated in 1924 and taken for breaking up.
