well on way back to Stack of Bricks he had nothing to wear so I always carried a rolled up plastic mack in my back pocket so Peanuts wore that on the bus back down Commercial road but he was hanging on to the post on the long bench seat by the door and everyone was making comments that they could see thru the raincoat. jealous sods. I think Peanuts was a Cayzire Irvine cadet . I did have a photo of all of us standing on the back wall inside the pub with peanuts wearing his scull cap and ripped to shreads jeans.
I have over the years moved my times and my dad looked after all my cine films and photos but alas he died and my stepmother thru them all out including his war photo albums tragic but i have nothing to post or show anyone.
I had a realy good cine of bad weather in Japan sea and also on Valla up the signal mast going through the suez canal panning from ford to aft . i nearly got gazed from fumes blowing ford at slow speed from the funnel . All in a days work.
Hello Ian,
no, I'm afraid I don't remember Peanuts. One name that I just remembered is Craig Bollen, I believe he went into P and O Personnel management. On the subject of Dave Kite, I'm not 100% sure about this, but within the last 5 years I read in the Nautilus UK telegraph that a Dave Kite, had just retired after some decades with Shell Tankers, I think. Someone was having some sort of presentation for him.
Also on the subject of photos/films etc. I remember going into the Empire Dock in Singapore on the old Benlawers around "66 or "67 and there was a film crew filming us. They were filming all the Benboats for a retirement present for one of the Thompsons.
That would be good to get on video.

Well for those on this thread you will be surprised that three cadets from the past who all sailed with each other two for their first trip on the Benvalla have all ended up living within 25 miles of each other in the county of Yorkshire.
Despite having stared off life from three totally different areas they end up i each others back yard.
They started on the Benvalla 1965 David Kite (Ginger) from Chingford London , Ian Keyl from Aberdeen via Teesside and another Ian from London via Hong Kong. and beleave it or not we all have lived in the same area for just over forty years and I used to visit a good friend in South Cave only a stones throw from David.
we have all managed to get in contact since and another one from further afield in Oz has turned up to help the treasure trail with various clues and that is Alex Burns also off the Valla.
We are hoping for a meet up very soon . A small world but if not for modern media we would have probably never found each other ,certainly the postie couldn't help.

I knew Craig Bollen from Hong Kong days - pre Ben Line (I forgot him when posting #3 previously). When he did MAR he met a trainee teacher from "Raggie Mags" (Teachers Training College not far from Greenwich foot-tunnel) and she 'persuaded' him that sea going was not an option, hence his move into P&O Marine Personnel. At that point I lost touch with him.

cadets from the Past in Ben Line.

As i had mentioned in an earlier post there about six of us meeting up in Glasgow soon having all started about the same time in Ben Line. in contacting each other we have sadly discovered that two of our old colleagues have passed away .
They are Roddy Jardine some time last year and Andrew Dundas who passed away 15 months ago from Cancer,
May we pass our belated Condolences on to their families and for our friends to RIP. May the ebbing tide have taken then to a quiet and sheltered place . Ian
