ex. RN RMAS Fleet tender DENMEAD A363

Hi,

My name is Cas and I have the Dutch nationality. I'm m since 2006 the owner of the ex. RN Fleet Tender Denmead A363.
She was from 1996 - 2006 as KILQUADE in Ireland, where I bought here.

The vessel is now in Holland for a complete refit to a private cruise boat for the Med.

I'm looking for contact with other FT owners to exchange information.
Also information and pics from FT skippers/mechanics etc. are very welcome!

Kind regards
Cas

Hello Cas

Welcome to SN.

I spent 15 year in the Royal Naval Auxiliary Service (RNXS) and we had the loyal class of fleet tenders. They are very handy little ships, and I thoroughly enjoyed sailing in them. I hope you can provide some pictures of the progress in converting you vessel

First my deepest apologies to all who post a reply on my posting from 2007(!)

When the refit of our Fleet Tender was finished (2008) we would go to Levkas-Greece for charter but the crisis was started and we have to change our plans.
We moored the boat in Rotterdam and lived aboard, waiting on better times! End 2011 we know that Greece was no option anymore so we looked to another location in the Med.
Finally we choose for Barcelona and sailed the St. Katharine in June 2012 from Rotterdam to Barcelona.

Fantastic trip and 14 days sailing with the back ground music from the Lister Blackstone!! Made a stop on Belle Ile (Golf of Biscay) for bad weather and Cascais (Portugal) to drop one of the crew. We arrived in Barcelona without any problems with this fantastic ship. Used only 28 litres fuel per hour (580 rpm @ 9-10 knts).

Now we moored in Port Forum and rent out the boat as “floating apartment” . Hopefully I can get next year a charter licence so we will do some charters to/around the Balearics.
After a huge amount of work (and money) finally she is making some cash for us!

To see historical pictures and from the refit etc. have a look on: http://www.wonenaanboord.nl/index-eng.htm
Our present rental site is : http://www.RentaYachtinBarcelona.com/index.php/en/

If somebody would have some bigger size pictures, please let me know and I will send them to you.

I’m still collecting information/pictures about the ex. Denmead, so please let me know if you know somebody who know the Denmead or have pictures, information etc.

Thank you very much and enjoy the pictures on above websites!

PS. Respond time is now approximately 6 days instead of 6 years!
We making progress!!

Welcome back Cas

I have reviewed your websites and i congratulate you and your wife on an excellent job converting the ship.

After serving on this type of ship in all weathers I know you will have a good solid vessel to enjoy for many years to come.

Cas, a fine looking vessel, you have made a first class job of renovation, and your rental rate looks very competitive. Best of luck.

@ DAVIDJM, Thanks for this. Because you have served on the Fleet Tenders, do you know maybe an engineer who has worked on these boats?

I have a motor driven HAMWORTHY bilge pump on air (vacum I think) in the engine room but have no idea how it works. Called with the Hamworthy UK and NL but they had no information anymore. :-(

@Super Moderator, also thanks. But to be honest, it was a h*** of a job. She was during the refit moored in Stellendam (NL), there are a few ship yards based (Padmos and Maaskant), so many (second hand) materials to get and good retired crafts men where pleased to help!! Without them ..........
