Mystery ship from 1943

Can anybody identify this burned out ship photographed in a North African port by Lt Chris Eaton RNVR, HMS VENOMOUS, in 1943?

Any idea which North African port?
French North Africa ?
Or Libya?
A most interesting problem, anyway.

VENOMOUS & VELOX at Tripoli, 23 May 1943

VENOMOUS was part of the escort for the first through convoy from Gib to Alex which entered Tripoli harbour at 0800 on 23 May 1943 as described by Lt Christopher R.V. Holt RNVR on HMS Velox in his diary:

“Tripoli Harbour was a pretty amazing sight, at least half a dozen big wrecks and across the harbour entrance three blockships and a small gap which had been blasted by us. There was quite a big hospital ship and one or two good looking ITI’s all wrecks.

We eventually didn’t get a pilot being furthest from the shore but followed the other two in. It looked as though we would touch either side going through the gap and were then confronted with a formidable array of wreck buoys. There was just room to scrape though there and sidle up alongside Liddlesdale who was berthed on an oiler astern to a big ITI.”

I have several other pohotographs of the blockade at the entrance to Tripoli taken by Lt Holt but they did not include this ship but it could have been "the big hospital ship" or one of the "good looking ITIs all wrecks.

I had not expected such a rapid response but I find your suggestion that the mystery ship is TEVERE pretty convincing and if it checks out I shall include this fine photograph in Chapter 14 of the new edition of A HARD FOUGHT SHIP to be published in May.

Can anybody provide further details of how it came to be scuttled and when it was salvaged or removed?
