OOCL Berlin transits beneath the Bayonne Bridge:

The project to raise the level of the roadway on the Bayonne Bridge, between Bayonne, New Jersey and Staten Island, New York, has been going on for some time. It will permit larger "post-panamax" container ships to have access to the Port Newark and Port Elizabeth container terminals at Newark Bay, as well as to the container terminal at Howland Hook on Staten Island. I used to pass under this bridge on the "Panamax"-sized Sea-Land "Econs", which were 950 feet long. Even on those ships we could only transit underneath the bridge at low tide, when our air draft was low enough to fit underneath the span.
