Thumbs up Yet another Newbee - Clyde Puffer and John Wonfor

Hello to everyone and I hope some of you may be able to help me. As you will see from by login name I am a Puffer fanatic. Currently I am trying to compile whai I hope may become the definative work on Clyde Puffers and VICs. I would greatly appreciate any help or information anyone could supply. To save you your wasting time I already have most of the info of the main web sites, however these sites are either aimed at one vessel or cover the well know ones. It's the ones that are not covered I am looking for, especially if you know something that is not normally on the web pages, or if you or someone you know worked on thes little ships.

Many thanks
Connor (Closest I could get to a Puffer!)

Hello fellow salts. Been trying to navigate (can't get more nautical than that!) my way round this particular seaway and making very little headway. Just wanted to introduce myself and although I've made a couple of postings and actually uncovered an old shipmate, can't seem to find my way in to say Hello without butting into someone's thread. Ex AB from Scotland (Barra) now living in Oz. Federal Line, NZSC, Blue Star. ('65 to '73). All ex seafaring buddies will know me as John Evans. (Too long a story, guys, sorry).

Hi Clyde Puffer and welcome,

My dad sailed on the small coasters and I would go with him for my school holidays. She was called the SS Sojourner 500 ton general cargo, Scotch Boiler and triple expansion engine. Life on board was the same as the Para Handies and I now realise what an experience it was.

The first trip was in 1948 when I was eight years old. One of the ports we did was Greenock with cement but most were on the east coast of the UK, Orkney and Shetland. My last run was fruit from Butlers Wharf London to Ostend and Hamburg in 1949.

Do you wish any experiences from these travels? If so I will put them on this website from time to time and refer to your good self.

Best regards,
Gordon Porter (Taleso)

Hi Taleso, I remember the Sojourner carrying coal to Lyness Naval Base in Scapa Flow, early 1950's.. she was narrow with a deep draft loaded, she rose high when light ship ,and always seemed to have a list, but its a long time ago now and maybe my facts are not entirely accurate...
