Richard de larrinaga

i was 3rd engineer in her 1956 ? she went through the st lawrence seaway destination duluth minn. was she the first the queen officially opened the next year ?

Welcome to the site. I too had the dubious pleasure of sailing on this vessel some 10 years after you though. She must have been nearly new in your day.

hya david yes she was about a year old as far as i can remember.very interesting crew estonian skipper west african cooks japanese & arab donkeymen + every other nationality under the sun but no trouble i would be interested to find out about the seaway i think she might have been first or second ? trouble free engine doxford i recall i think she went to canada a lot( bloody cold ) all the best david good memories cheers

Richard & Ramon both had 6 cyl. B&W engines manufactured by H & W Glasgow, good for 12 kts downhill with a following gale. I did the round the world service, 18 months, too many ports to recount, loading lumber in N Vancouver on final leg for discharge at Belfast.

thanks david i remember that b&w now but it was 60 yrs ago. an arab donkey greaser put his hand through a rod lifting roller on my bloody watch what a mess he was taken off in bermuda i can't remember too much about the richard she was one of many & im an old bastard now all the best mate cheers

Richard de Larrinaga done two trips out of Bunbury in West Australia in 1965.

She was in port from 20 Oct to the 26 loading timber for the North West of West Australia port Dampier.

This trip was repeated when in port from 21 Dec 65 to 31 Dec 65 (arriving from Thevenard South Australia)
