Billy McNeill

Billy McNeill, captain of Celtic's European Cup-winning team, dies aged 79....

I'm no Scot but I was on a ship, mainly crewed by Scots, when Celtic won the EC...Even the Rangers supporters cheered the victory!

There is only one King Billy, that's McNeill.

As the supporters used to sing.

A one club man as well. I can remember those days of glory in Europe too, what a team that was. It was a shame they didn't pick them all for the National side, they could have beaten quite a few other countries I reckon.

R.I.P.

Was with a room full of English football supporters in Bletchley Park watching the match on TV. Being the only Scot stood some stick before match started. It soon changed later on by the final whistle
A memorable night never to be forgotten.
A great team lead by a great player.
RIP.

Amen to all of the above. The word "Legend" gets bandied about a bit too often in Sporting circles these days but not in Billy's case. A colossus of a player, giant of a man and a great fellow. RIP Cesar. Hail Hail!

I've just watched it twice...I can't believe it was over 50 years ago; I was a young man.

Billy also had a spell as Aberdeen manager 1977/78. He laid the foundation for one Alex Ferguson to take over and the rest is history as they say. RIP Mr McNeil.

I've still got them; it's the hair that waved goodbye (well, most of it anyway)

I was in Aberdeen doing pre-sea at Robert Gordon's collage, living at the Sailors Home in Mearns St.
Excitement was a mild word. After the match people were literally dancing in the street
