Hello from Ferrol, Spain

I am a former employee of Astano (Ferrol, Spain), and I'm trying to locate data and photos of buqhes built in the shipyard since its creation in 1948 until it was closed in 2003.

Welcome to SN, JMSC. Sorry I can't help with your enquiry but just wanted to tell you I travelled on the Transcantabrico train a few years ago - think we stopped at Ferrol - and had a great time.

It was a bit annoying to finally see the Bay of Biscay like a millpond when I was on a train and not a ship!

To add my welcome - I sailed on at least two. Texaco Spain and Texaco London. I followed the maiden trip sparkie on both in 1975 and 1976 so I suppose built 1974/5 but guess these are late enough for you to have to hand anyway.

Roddie, of course. Two contraptions instead of a steam turbine (all three of my Texaco 'jobs' were steamers - but I wasn't 'below' then), how could I forget? Because my mind was then on two things, Arthur van Kaick's sometime alternators and the 'fridge which you seemed to repair so effortlessly.

Were there no others?

Welcome jmcs I am from Chile and I surveyed a good deal of ships build by Spanish ship's yards, I am going to check my records to let you now if I have some ships build in Astano.

Bienvenido jmcs soy de Chile y inspeccioné una buena cantidad de buques construidos por Astilleros Españoles, voy a revisar mis apuntes para ver si tengo algunos buques construidos en Astano.

Regards / Saludos

Tomislav Raymondi.

I have an idea that Gulf Oil built some tankers there, in the fifties. Just something that rings a bell, can't help more, I'm afraid.
