William (Bill) Edwards

Bill Edwards passed away on Sunday 23rd January 2011.
He joined BP Tanker Co as an engineer apprentice in the early 1960's and rose through the ranks - I do not know what ships he sailed on.
In the 1970's he transferred to the North Sea on BP's Forties Field as Offshore Maintenance Engineer and latterly Offshore Installation Manager in Forties and subsequently Buchan Alpha. I worked alongside him in Forties Field.
Bill came from the Montrose area of North East Scotland.
Before joining BP he worked as an apprentice at his uncle's Lunan Bay Garage. After Bill left BP in early 1990's he took over a garage in Fyvie, north of Aberdeen.

Sorry to hear of Bill's passing, Jim. I sailed with Bill on the British Venture in '69 when he was Junior. Can picture him now coming out the pit drenched in sweat! Great shipmate. When he paid off, he left me his old guitar which I may still have tucked away somewhere! My condolensces to family & friends.

W(M) Edwards was indeeed BP Marine Engineering Apprentice , I think a 1962 intake.
I was never in touch with him personally but have on record that he sailed on, Sergeant EA 8/65, Osprey 3E 69/70, Kestrel 2E 12/70 and Kennet CE 1/77

His name was mentioned to me by Bob Smith a well know BP CE and 1958 EA

My condolences to his family

I'm sorry to hear of Bill's passing. I was on Forties Charlie when he was OME, and I had heard he'd taken over the garage in Fyvie when he retired.

A great guy. Condolences to his family.
