W.D.Atlas (nee Mersey Engineer)

Hello to all!

I'm new here to the site, but I'm hoping that there may be someone or someones on here who knows about the dredger W.D. Atlas.

She was formerly known as the Mersey Engineer, built in 1949 she was re-named W.D.Atlas and sailed to Australia in 1965.

My father, Gordon Fairbairn, was working on her when she foundered and sank in cyclonic conditions in May 1966. He was one of only 4 survivors.

I'm writing a book about the event and I'd be grateful of any information or photographs that may be out there.
