Balmoral

l am looking for a pre 1940 coal burning ship called Balmoral, a friend has a photo showing 18 stokers having a pipe and l cannot find any details on a web search. Thanks

How about this one, built 1900. Next Balmoral was built in 1944

Thank you for your reply l do know of this ship as l live on the isle of wight but l wonder if a ship of this size would have that many stokers?, mind you l have no idea what the number would be having never working on a coal burner. Kevin

Re. PS Balmoral. She would only have had a few stokers, certainly not 18 ! In April 1940 she was requisitioned and converted to an AA Ship at Southampton, attached to the Nore Command and based in the Thames area for coastal convoy work. From September 1943 she became an accommodation ship on the Clyde until returned to her owners in 1947, being broken up the following year.
