Thought I would jump on the 2 Grumpy bandwagon and post this picture of the management course I attended at Warsash.

I cant remember the exact year but I think it was '80 or '81.

The names I remember are
Back row far right Mike Watts (still in contact with Mike), back row 4th from right Gordon Milne.
Sitting, far right Mike Winters and second left Adrian Dunne.
Some of the others I do know but the heeds gone and so have the names.

Edit: Course was from 22-6-1983 to 29-6-1983

Sailed with Capt Plumb in '76 on the Hazel, lovely bloke, a very calm person.
Mike Winter came out to Brunei Bay as Cat Off and got very sunburnt if I remember correctly !

Hi Gordon, Seated second from left is definitely Adrian Dunne, chief engineer. I have sailed with him twice, an absolute gent with a great sense of humour.
Doug.

Hello Smeats, long time since the Iolair and whatever River boat before that.

Going back to the photo in the back row 7th from the right is Mike Bicknell a grocer. Front row 3rdfrom the left is Malcolm Bainsbridge probably a mate then. The two culprits to the right are Sid Plumb who I sailed with on the Br Hazel in '76 and mike winter who I sailed within ermmm ... A river boat Br. .....?and again in Brunei.

Hi Gordon and Alan
Saw your postings yesterday Alan, hope you are keeping well, from what I remember sailed with you several times on various tankers and Iolair.
I am retired have been since 2008 on my 58th birthday. Now living in Bideford'
Gordon, know we have had a few comms on here on various postings.
Can remember Vince Salkeld and Brian Cameron being the R/O's on Iolair, did you take over from Vince when he went to Forties Charlie?
Still keep in touch with him.
Terry Sharp was my back to back on Iolair, last time I saw him was in Aberdeen airport in 1995, believe he was on the "fancy" BP supply boat then, did he not transfer to the West Of Shetland floating tanker/platform after that?

Dave

Yeah we sailed together on the Dart and Iolair. I was supposed to take over from Brian Cameron, who was to go to the Seillean but the timing was going back so I was asked if I wanted to go into a new team taking over the saturation dive maintenance on the Iolair, spent three years there before moving to the Seillean.
Terry Sharp the last I saw him would be around 95 or shortly after, he came out for a trip on the Seillean covering for someone.
Last time I saw Vince was the Marine Electronics course in Plymouth that would be 76 I guess.
R/O's on Iolair, Chris Wadsworth; Jim Bruce; Alistair Bellamy; Brian Cameron; Reg Lowe
Elecs Chris Hairsine; Mick O'Conor; Bill Frost; Tony Sullivan
That's all I remember now

Crickey Gordon, where did all my hair go, I guess I have made up for it with my waistline!

When I left the Iolair I went as a ship vetting inspector and that really opened up life for me and I gelled to it. I had 22 months of inspecting globally then I was in the office in Harlow moving on to Hemel Hempstead 145 miles driving each day! In fact i inspected a vessel in 1992 inJebel Dhanna and your brother was Master the Ambra Grey I think the ship was. i was vetting superintendent. Then a friendly Greek offered me a job in Piraeus and I took it. It was helluva a challenge but I did well in my field and made a name for myself in the world of vetting. I had 19 years working for the Greeks before coming here to Dubai.
I had my own apartment in Greece but sold it at a major loss due to the problems there. My pride and joy is my apartment in Florida, gods waiting room. I just don't get there enough though.

A lot of water gone under the bridge since the Iolair, I am on various industry committees so with my job as well and still active with no intention to retire.

I keep in touch with others who are ex BP such as Enys Dan, Dave Wiliamson, Andy Lockie and Peter Giffen all ex
Iolair boys.

I will stay in touch,
All the best Gordon,

Alan

Pete Giffen was 2nd mate with me on the Trent - attended my wedding back in 1976 (11/09) .. I made contact with him for a while about a year or so ago but since then nothing.
From Broadstairs in Kent if I remember, mad on sailing and at the time I knew him he was married to Sally - we have both been through divorces since those days.
