SS Mount Oswald or Mountoswald

Hi everyone,

I saw that this ship has already be a subject of interest in the past, i think it was Gail who had questions about it.
My great granddad also served on this ship (Mobray Darling) and was also lost at sea when it went down back in 1912, he was the cheif steward (I dont know what that entails but im sure someone will tell me!)
Im in the process of compiling my family tree and im looking for any photo's of the Mount Oswald, i havent had any luck yet.
Could there have been a sister ship constructed so i could possibily compare or get an idea of what she looked like?
I also have the ship's number during construction (110347) could i use that to find any drawings?

Lets see how good the Navy guys are!!! Thanks, Bill (Ex Army!!)

Hello,
I don't know if you have this
https://plimsoll.southampton.gov.uk/...soll/20110.pdf
The number 110347 is the ships official number
http://www.crewlist.org.uk/data/vess...&submit=search

Her Last crew agreement can be obtained from here.
https://www.mun.ca/mha/holdings/view...cial_No=110347

This will give you some info on you G/Gfather. Such as his address, NOK etc

Try the Mitchell Library, Glasgow for drawings.
Or NMM Greenwich https://www.rmg.co.uk/shop/ship-plan-prints-scanning
Not cheap!

regards
Roger

Hey Roger,

I expect your smirking away there coming up with all that info! I knew you Navy types were good (Tounge in cheek) I'll buy you a pint some day, the family are going to love what you've done, catch you later.

Thanks,
Bill yorkston

Loss of "Mountoswald " considered something of a scandal at the time. Questions were asked in the House.

List of ships run by the owners Lunn And McCoy, Newcastle here:

As you will see their vessels tended to be 'unlucky'. The "Laleham" also disappeared in circumstances somewhat similar to the "Mountoswald".
