Hi there Royal Mailers out there.

Have only recently heard the sad news that my old shipmate Richard Masson, aka Sailtie crossed the bar just before last Christmas. We sailed together on 'Essequibo' in 1962 when we picked up a boat load of Cuban refugees in the Caribbean and landed them in Baton Rouge( great sulphur port!!). Dick was senior cadet and I was his junior. The old man was Ray Philips - he of the baseball cap and long cigarette holder!! Fond memories.

Sailtie later became a senior officer with P&O cargo division and a sometome ship deliverer. He enjoyed sailing andlater became a writer.

RIP Dick.
